Located in the scenic and beautiful Horton Plains, this is the third highest mountain peak in Sri Lanka, standing at 2,360 meters above sea-level. Belonging to a nature-reserve, permission is required from the Department of Wildlife Conservation to enter. Getting here is not difficult, affording an interesting yet achievable trek that takes about an hour to reach the peak.
The closest route to the mountain to travel to Horton Plains via the Pattipola-Ohiya road. The trail that leads to the mountain is about 200 meters and starts around 400 meters from the Pattipola main-entrance of Horton Plains.
The initial part of the trail is through tall shrub-land and then it gives way to open terrain where shorter shrubs are encountered. One crosses a mini-peak before arriving at the Thotapola main peak where at the summit, a thick growth of vegetation is found. Affording splendid views and enchanting surroundings, views are sometimes obscured by the thick lush growth at the peak.
