Piduruthalagala

Piduruthalagala is Sri Lanka’s tallest mountain-peak that boasts magnificent views over the surrounding landscape. Strategically positioned in the heart of the country within the central province, this mountain is an ideal visit-location for the avid trekker, to the inquisitive tourist and should not be missed especially when visiting the beautiful ‘Garden City’ Nuwara Eliya home to some of the finest lush green tea plantations in the world. Getting to the peak of Sri Lanka’s highest mountain, is a difficult yet exciting climb. However for those who make it to the summit are rewarded with a stunning and breathtakingly panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. Apart from offering dramatic views, this mountain offers a wonderfully cool, misty climate. An appreciative collection of varying species of plants, animals, birds, flowers and trees are hidden in this diversely rich mountain, while most of them are endemic to Sri Lanka. Being the tallest mountain in Sri Lanka, some of the local broadcasting stations including the state-owned Rupavahini Corporation have set up their signal beaming towers at its summit. An ideal destination for a most enjoyable trek to the summit, the journey takes one through misty jungles and past streams of fresh, clear, mountain-water born from this beautiful mountain. This misty cool climb through its terrain finally emerges at the summit greeting the trekker with its stunning views of its surroundings.
