Kaudulla National Park is situated about 190 km from Colombo, where the famous Kaudulla Tank which is said to have been built by the sister of King Mahasena. Declared as a National park in 2002, it is some 6,900 hectares in size.
The park strategically includes an elephant migratory path or Elephant corridor, as it is located between the Somawathi National Park and the Minneriya National Park. Deer, Sambhur, Wild boar, Leopard, Bear, and many species of Fish and Birds are also found here.
Some of the bird species are Crested Serpent Eagle, Crested Hawk Eagle, Great Stone Plover, Lesser Sand Plover, Open bill Stork, Painted Stork, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, White-bellied Sea Eagle, Spoonbill, White Ibis, Stork-billed Kingfisher and other lovely species.
Kaudulla could be reached from Colombo on the Colombo-Kandy road via Warakapola on the Kurunegala road, to Kurunegala, Dambulla, and Habarana where after about 12km, the park entrance is found.
