Pigeon Island National Park



The beautiful Pigeon Island National Park situated about 1 km off the beautiful sands of the Nilaveli coast in the Trincomalee district. Named after its famously existent Blue Rock Pigeon a native endangered bird found living within the rocks of these lovely islands, they were declared a sanctuary in 1963 to protect these lovely birds.

This Park comprises of two small islands off the east coast, north of Trincomalee town and is around 471 hectares in size. The park was upgraded in 2003 to the status of a National Park while its boundaries were extended to include the enchanting coral reef that surround them. The islands are situated about 1 km off the Nilaveli coast in Trincomalee District.

This Island National Park also boasts one of the best coral reefs in the country and is a perfect location for scuba diving and snorkeling.
