Leisure Activities

Sri Lanka is blessed with diverse climatic and geographic features. Be it delightfully sand and surf beaches, expansive rolling plains, towering mountain ranges, snaking rich rivers and lagoons or luxuriant green rain forests, these attractive features are guaranteed to give you day upon day of sheer excitement, thrill and pleasure during your visit. All of this beauty is bundled into 65,610 km² that takes you from one location to another, from warm to cold climates within a matter of hours or a day at the most.

The three climatic zones in Sri Lanka are made up of the wet zone (annual rainfall of over 2,000 mm per year), the intermediate zone (annual rainfall of between 1,500 - 2,000 mm per year), and the dry zone (annual rainfall of 1,500 mm per year). These varying climatic zones make up the unique natural features of the country.

There are many ways in which you can enjoy this wonderful and beautiful land as you travel its shores, towns, villages, mountain peaks, lagoons, rivers and streams for some of the most memorable adventure and leisure experiences you could ever have.

Water: Of the total land mass, 870 km² of it is water and Sri Lanka’s 1,340 km long coastline with warm waters (usually around 27°C / 83°F) are ideal for water activities and sports such as: Sunbathing, Swimming, Surfing, Diving, Snorkeling, Deep Sea Fishing, Windsurfing, Surfing, Waterskiing, Wakeboarding, Bodyboarding, and much more!

Sri Lanka’s abundant Rivers, Water Falls, Lakes, Lagoons, Man-made and Natural Reservoirs, swamps and canals, make them ideal locations for whitewater rafting, windsurfing, waterskiing, dinghy sailing, kayaking, boating, jet skiing and a multitude of other water sports.

Land: Chilly, misty towering mountains surrounded by breezy rolling plains, fertile green forests, river beds, marshes, sanctuaries and wild life parks, afford numerous exciting prospects for adventure thrills such as hiking, trekking, rock climbing, camping, safari, elephant back riding and lots more.
